Autumn Oak Railing Inserts-Part 1

Following is a series of photos that show the development of the two key features in this design. Stage 1 features the forging of the leaf forms and Stage 2 features the forging of the acorns.

Stage 1- Forging the Leaves

There are countless methods for creating a leaf form in forged steel. With over 300 leaves for this portion of the project, a simple straight forward process had to be developed that would result in an attractive leaf in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. A half a dozen methods were tried and discarded prior to settling on the one that is shown below.
